Butterflies

There are few things in the garden as graceful as a butterfly.

Floating from flower to flower like a ballet dancer is pure

delight. The best way to attract butterflies to your space is

to add plants which they enjoy. Not only flowers for the adult

butterfly, but plants for the larvae or caterpillar stage. If

you normally grow dill, fennel, or parsley, you've most likely had

quite a few caterpillars. You may find it helpful to plant a

patch of dill and/or fennel away from your personal herb

garden, and leave it to the caterpillars. Butterflies also

need a water supply, just as the bird do. Butterflies will often

take advantage of water on plant leaves or water in a

shallow saucer.

Below you will find a list of  plants to attract

butterflies as well as favored sources of food for the

caterpillar stage. This is only a sample of the plants known to be

butterfly friendly, if you have a your butterflies especially love-please

let us know so we can share the information with others.
